Show review: High Society

29 July 2026

High Society was OK.  It dazzled visually and musically, but not emotionally (which is something I’ve noticed more and more with shows like these, though that could just be because I’ve seen way too many).  Plus, as I mention in my review, I’ve got previous with this one.  The film was my grandparents’ favourite, and I wanted to be Grace Kelly when I grew up.  Unlike MIKA – and Helen George, for that matter, I’ve never tried.  I knew I was beat from the start.

(MIKA sings that he couldn’t be like Grace Kelly because “all her looks were too sad”, when really he knows that no-one else can be that beautiful or elegant.  His consolation: trying “a little Freddie” (Mercury) is much easier to achieve!).

Anyway… as I say, the show is OK.  Not even a third as good as the film, but it wouldn’t be, would it?  These shows never are.
