What Masterpiece Will You Create in 2023?

04 January 2023

I’m not one for new year’s resolutions.  There’s so much pressure to make them stick; as though 1st January is the only chance we ever get to start exercising, or begin a personal masterpiece.

Then, when we fail (as we inevitably will, because January is a nasty, gloomy month in which everyone yearns for comfort, and where best to find comfort than the familiar?) we beat ourselves up.

Getting better every day

Every day is a blank canvas, so don’t worry if you’ve already broken your January resolve to start each morning with a run.  “A low-level remedial narrative goes on in our heads all the time,” says the writer Ann Wroe, “(meaning a)lmost every day, in tiny ways, we do become better and better.”

All that said, I can’t resist the temptation to think of January as a ‘month of newness’.  I just take things slowly, planning rather than doing, so that when the January gloom has subsided, I’m ready to get going.

I’ve been thinking – or reflecting, if you will – about creativity.  More specifically, how my creative writer’s life has fallen by the wayside, while I (reasonably) concentrated on skilling myself up for paid client work.

A masterpiece made real

This January, then, will be about making a plan to write just for myself.  I’ve got some exciting ideas, and because exciting ideas always feel more real when they’re spoken aloud, I’ve recorded a podcast episode in which I do just that.

(If you feel like checking in with me every so often to see how I’m getting on, I won’t mind.  In fact, I’d love it if you did!)

I’ve also launched a new, one-off mentoring session that’s exclusively for planning your own writing masterpiece: be it a book, a story, an article, or whatever wordy else.

It’s called ‘Plan Your Masterpiece’, and it’s an hour-and-a-half of talking through your idea so that by the time we’re finished, you will know exactly:

  • what to do next, and
  • what to keep on doing to make your idea wonderfully real.

(Whether you put your plan into action in January or July is completely up to you!)

If that sounds good, you can book your very own ‘Plan Your Masterpiece’ session right here.
