What’s the point?
23 August 2023
What’s the point of what, you’d be entitled to ask. But if you did, I’d shrug. We’re in the last days of August, there’s a Bank Holiday on Monday and the sun is shining… so when I say “what’s the point?” I could be talking about anything.
Truth be told, I’m talking about this. My inbox is straining with smug “I’m on holiday!” auto-replies, so blog-readers will be few. Those who do brave the summer sluggishness to read won’t be particularly receptive to anything I’ve got to say.
That’s if I had anything to say. Right now, it’s hard to feel like I have. So what’s the point?
The point is… consistency
I’m self-employed, so I can’t stop talking just because it’s summer.
“Consistency is how you build a brand”, says Harry Dry in his enlightening email newsletter, Marketing Examples, this week.
He’s right. I have to let you know I’m still here, doing adequate writing work that I could also do for you, should you wish to spend your own time more fruitfully. I have to let you know all that in a nice, natural-sounding way that doesn’t waste your time.
(Difficult, isn’t it?)
The point is… keeping one eye on the future
You might not be reading this in our sun-dappled now, but who knows what will happen in a few months’ time?
Your best friend may have emailed this very post to you on a snowy winter’s morning, with a breathless note that says “…OMG you HAVE to read this, it’s amazing!” (unlikely). You could have stumbled across it during a bored LinkedIn scroll (possible). Maybe you typed “what’s the point?” into Google and were directed straight here (also possible).
You might also be reading these words years after I originally wrote them.
One of the attendees at my first-ever blogging course told me she already understood the importance of writing about her business. A client had contacted her after reading a stray post she’d written almost five years previously. “It made me realise I should keep blogging, even if people don’t read my posts straight away,” she said.
The point is… SEO
Whether or not people read every last word you write, the more you “feed” your website with original written content, the greater the chance you’ll be found online.
Case in point: I don’t pay for SEO services (though I work with a fantastic web design and build team who keep things updated behind the scenes). But because I update my blog almost every week, my site is – at the time of writing – on Page One of Google for “blog writing services Essex”, “copywriter Essex”, and “ghostwriter Essex”.
(I still get regular emails from highly observant, not-at-all-dodgy SEO consultants who criticise my website and tell me they’re my only option of “getting on Page One of Google”).
The point is… I can help you stay engaging, consistent, and found
If you struggle with writing regularly enough because it’s holiday-time, you don’t know what to say, or you simply don’t enjoy it, relax. I’ll happily write for you, in your own voice.
I’ve also teamed up with a rather wonderful VA called Mel Poole. She’ll take our writing, make it look amazing with graphics and images, then post it on your website or chosen social-media platforms for you.
In other words: we do the work, you get the glory. Brilliant, isn’t it?
If you’d like to find out more about my writing services, or Mel’s and my combined writing-and-posting services, drop me a message or arrange a quick, friendly chat.
